About the KU Bioengineering Graduate Program
Mission Statement
Our mission is to be a national leader in bioengineering research, educational activities, and technology transfers. Students work together with bioengineering faculty from a wide variety of technical backgrounds on some of the most perplexing and challenging problems in the field.
Intellectually stimulating
The Bioengineering Program in the University of Kansas School of Engineering provides an exciting intellectual environment for graduate students. Bioengineering students are among the brightest and most academically talented students at KU. Working with them to achieve joint success under our mission is truly a great accomplishment. KU Bioengineering graduates are well-trained, interdisciplinary professionals, equipped with skills and a drive to provide twenty-first century leadership in bioengineering. At KU, students may earn a Master of Science (M.S.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). In conjunction with the School of Medicine, they may also work toward the M.D./Ph.D.
Growing
One of the fastest growing and most interdisciplinary of fields in engineering, Bioengineering demands collaboration to solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions to problems that span the broad field of biological sciences. Our program exemplifies the fast growth in this field: we welcomed our first class of 11 graduate students in the Fall 2007 and our current enrollent is now close to 50.
Interdisciplinary & Collaborative
At The University of Kansas, faculty members develop close ties with their colleagues across disciplines and campuses, embracing this interdisciplinary approach. Our world-class affiliate faculty are found in the School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Business, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, as well as in the many bioscience research centers and labs that make The University of Kansas an instutution fundamentally strong, and extremely broad, in bioscience research.
Reaching out & Making an Impact
The university and our Bioengineering faculty affiliates continually strive to cultivate strong relationships with professionals, businesses and government agencies, with the goal of establishing productive collaborations doing translational research that truly makes a difference whether locally, regionally, nationally or globally.
